Children in at Olsen House have been working on life skills as part of the school's mission to prepare children practically, socially and emotionally for life beyond school.
Key Stage 2 focused on personal hygiene but practised a range of skills in their task. Pupils walked to the village to buy a toothbrush and paste. They used all their road safety skills to cross the road, were polite to people in the community that they met, carefully weighed up the many choices of toothbrush and toothpaste, considering budget and personal preference, completed their purchases and proudly brushed their teeth when they got back to school.
Key Stage 3 pupils used the school's kitchen to design and create a range of tasty pizzas. Understanding that pizza does not just come from a takeaway, but can be cheap, nutritious and fun to make, was an enjoyable lesson! If you make your own pizza, you can of course include only your personal favourite toppings...
Key Stage 4 pupils took on an even more challenging cooking task, mixing, seasoning, shaping and frying delicious burgers presenting them stunningly with a range of garnishes.
Children's enthusiasm and confidence across all year groups in these tasks was highly commended by their teachers.
