Families > What to Expect

To be considered for a placement your child will need an EHCP in place, or have one in the process of being finalised. We can only take placemement referrals through your Local Authority, who will share the EHCP documents with us for consideration.

Our innovative, independent, specialist residential schools, specialist day schools and children's homes across England help young people to thrive, flourish and reach their full academic and personal potential. We support young people living with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, on the autism spectrum (ASC) and specific learning difficulties which may affect their behaviour.

Make sure you get in contact with a member of the Special Educational Needs team from your Local Authority for a conversation about school preference for your child. We would advise you have started the EHCP Assessment process before you speak to a Kedleston Group School. However, we would be happy to discuss our schools in more detail at any time.

We will need to find out all about your child’s needs, obtaining information through professional reports or school reports is key.

A copy of the draft or final EHCP will also be necessary.

We understand what a big decision it is to find a new school or home for your child or young person, and we want to help you get it right. The Local Authority will make a decision as to whether they will fund a placement. If they agree, we will collaborate with the Local Authority on a start date. You will get welcome information and a transition plan.

Helping your child to thrive in education and care

Our schools and homes support children and young people living with social, emotional, and mental health problems and specific learning difficulties, which affects their learning and ability to do everyday things. Our dedicated autism schools are especially designed to work with autistic children who may also have associated needs such as mental health problems, attention deficit hyperactive disorder and learning difficulties. 

Our schools follow the National Curriculum, and we have a strong educational focus in our schools and homes to give young people the very best start in life. We understand that we are the start of the pathway for young people and we support them to build the foundations for their future. We look at the needs of each individual young person and finding the right educational and residential option for them.

We provide therapeutic and holistic approaches alongside our education, to ensure we meet the full needs of each young person. 

Our homes work all year round to provide young people with a caring family environment, many of whom will have had previous placement breakdowns and not experience the care and support they deserve. We offer a nurturing approach but also ensure boundaries and structure are in put place to provide children and young people with the ability to learn, flourish and be happy.
