Our specialist Arc Oakbridge School supports young people to gain knowledge, skills and qualifications at various levels up to and including GCSEs along with an increasing range of vocational qualifications.
As part of the Gateway Hospitality and Catering qualification, Year 10 & 11 learners have been studying event planning, and what better way to consolidate their learning, than by hosting a real event. The learners had to think about the kind of event they would like to host and create a full plan, taking into account researching menus, finding resources, managing health and safety risk assessments, ensuring contingency plans, supporting dietary requirements and keeping on budget.
They went shopping for the equipment and ingredients needed, with careful consideration to their budget and cost per head. They prepared and cooked a delicious three-course meal for their families and ensured that the dining environment was comfortable and suitable for the guests. They also got to experience what it was like to be waiting staff and served their family members.
The feedback from parents was positive and they even got tipped. Hats off to the chef!
These learners are all keen to pursue a future career in hospitality and catering, and the team at Arc Oakbridge are fully equipped to support them toward this aspirational goal. We wish them every success, congratulations on the event.
