Today is World Book Day.
The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading.
Spending just 10 minutes a day reading and sharing stories with children can make a crucial difference to their future success and its fun for all involved.
That’s why World Book Day continues to encourage children and young people to read for pleasure through its work with authors, illustrators, publishers, bookshops and libraries.
Here at Kedleston Group, we appreciate the importance of reading ad story-telling for all of our children and young people. All of our schools have well stocked libraries on site and many offer the ‘Accelerated Reader Programme’ where all children have at least 1 dedicated Reading lesson a week. Some of the schools even have specific ‘Drop Everything and Read’ sessions, where the whole school is encouraged to stop what they are doing at the same time and read!
The ‘Accelerate Reader Programme’ is a great tool to track positive reading outcomes and the schools with the programme in place have seen fantastic progress and achievement.
Reading is not only great fun but also highly important for educational and social development and we have loved getting involved across Kedleston Group today to inspire our learners.
You may have seen some of the pictures already from across our schools and homes of the children and staff getting into the spirit to mark the occasion. You can check out all of the stories here in - https://www.arcschoololdarley.co.uk/news
