Meet Ellie, Inspirational Sports Leader:
“Someone inspired me, so I want to inspire someone, so they can keep on inspiring others.”
Ellie has been recognised with the Inspirational Inclusive Leader Award from the Youth Sport Trust for her remarkable leadership and involvement Ellie in sport despite the challenges she has faced.
Ellie, along with members of the team from Wings School Notts, attended the glitzy awards at Tobacco Dock London on Thursday 21st November, where she was presented with her award by Olympian Sir Mo Farah.
Attending Wings School Notts, Ellie transformed her behaviour through engagement in ice hockey and boxing, developing life skills and confidence along the way.
As a leader in the Inclusive Youth Leadership programme and School Games, she has inspired other students by demonstrating that sport can create positive change, regardless of one’s starting point. Ellie continues to motivate others by sharing her story and promoting inclusive sports events.
“Getting involved with Ice Hockey has given me so much more confidence and has changed my attitude towards everything I do, it’s changed my mindset and given me a good feeling .”
Former tennis star Jade Windley who is an Athlete mentor from the Youth Sport Trust and who nominated Ellie explains why she shone so brightly:
“I nominated Ellie for the inspiration include leadership award because she is one of the best young role models that I’ve ever worked with.
Ellis has had an amazing impact on her peers, both in her school and also both in the school and also the children who came for the inclusive leadership programme.
Everyone looked up to her, they were really curious about her story, and how she got involved in leadership, and its inspired others in the school to want to be the next Ellie, she’s fun, she’s friendly and she does everything with a smile. She’s someone who has turned her life around and is a great example if you can find a focus through sport you can make amazing changes.”
Ellie’s school, Wings School Notts, has also been recognised. The school, located near Newark, Nottinghamshire has been named as a Centre of Excellence by the Leadership Skills Foundation, one of only 17 centres achieving this in the country.
Adam Bailey, Assistant Head of Education for Wings school has said how proud the school is;
“This status means a lot to us as an establishment and our young people. It gives us recognition for their efforts with their application to their leadership awards.
“We aim to use this as platform to not only improve opportunities for leadership for our school, but for the county as well. This will be with a particular focus on raising aspirations and creating opportunities for young people facing significant inequalities and/or on the SEND register.”
