YOUNG PEOPLE at a specialist school in London which supports young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and autism have been celebrating a fantastic set of exam results.

Leaways School in Hackney, part of Kedleston Group, saw its Year 11 leavers achieve a total of 82 qualifications between them, with each individual student gaining on average seven qualifications each. Many of the young people at Leaways had previously had very disrupted educational journeys as a result of their difficulties, making their achievements all the more impressive.

There were 24 GCSEs achieved across the school including in Maths, English, Science and Statistics between Grades 5-8.  Six students left with four GCSEs each.

Other impressive statistic included:

• 100% of the GCSE pathway students gained a Maths, English and Science GCSE qualification
• 100%  of the GCSE pathway students gained a statistics GCSE Grade 5
• 100% of the GCSE pathway students gained GCSE English Grades 6-8
• 100% of the GCSE pathway students gained a Maths GCSE Grades 5-8
• 100% of the GCSE pathway students gained a science GCSE Grades 6-8

It wasn’t just a day to celebrate academic achievements however. Students also gained BTEC qualifications in Sports and Active Leisure and Home Cooking Skills, both important elements of the curriculum. Across the school qualifications were achieved in a wide range of subjects including English, Maths, Science, Statistics, Sports and Leisure, Home Cooking Skills and  Personal Progress.

“These include sixth form colleges to study A levels including economics, politics and further maths as well as vocational colleges which will provide courses in catering, construction and sports and active leisure. 

“The determination of the young people to achieve never ceases to amaze me. They should be rightly proud of themselves, as we are of them. These qualifications provide a fantastic foundation for the young people to build their future successes and we wish them all the very best.”
