Another great week at Olsen.
For enrichment Key stage 3 students continued to focus on STEM activities. They attended the Catalyst centre and enjoyed exploring the hands on activities there. They also attended a workshop where they made keyrings using CAPA and looked at 3D printing. Key Stage 4 students attended the museums in Liverpool and all enjoyed this visit also. Bluebird students visited Haigh Hall where they went on a Nature walk with sensory integration.
In Art students have been looking at street art and focussing on the work of Banksy and have been following the story of his most recent work which was painted on the side of a garage in port Talbot in Wales.
In Food tech Students are continuing to enjoy ‘the best of British’ and this week cooked a full English Breakfast including homemade hash browns. For many of the students the best part of the lesson was eating their creation.
As part of English lessons all students now use IDL (A learning software). Two students have completed two modules and received certificates and prizes for this. Year 11 students have started revision for their English and maths exams which they will sit after half term.
In Science students have enjoyed practicing their practical skills and focussed on Chromatography. They particularly enjoyed looking at the colours found in different coloured smarties.
In Opening minds students have been looking at the geographical features of coastlines and rivers, they have also completed their map skills.
In maths students have been applying mathematical skills to everyday situations.
