Safeguarding

As a school we recognise that safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility irrespective of the role they undertake and expect all staff, volunteers, and visitors to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support children, families, and staff at school. Safeguarding concerns may include ‘Children missing from Education’, drug and alcohol use, youth violence, bullying, mental health.

At Olsen House we ensure our practice adheres to ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education, 2023’, statutory guidance for schools and colleges on safeguarding children and safer recruitment. For further information click here.

The DSL is the lead person for school staff, pupils, parents/carers and partner agencies, who may have concerns about an individual child’s safety or well-being. The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL’s) are the first point of contact in the absence of the DSL, to avoid any unnecessary delays in responding to a child’s needs.

Child Protection

All adults working at Olsen House (including visitors, volunteers, and contractors) have a responsibility to report concerns where they believe a child may be at immediate risk of harm or neglect to the DSL, Mrs Allen or to the Headteacher. All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to appropriately. This information will be dealt with as confidentially as possible and made known to only those staff who need to know.

Whilst school deal with child protection concerns sensitively and with care, we have a legal responsibility to report such allegations to Social Services and/or the police and we follow the procedures set out by Sefton Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP).

Early Help

The purpose of Early Help is to prevent any issues getting worse or hitting crisis point by offering support to a family at the right time. Early Help works best when it is offered to the whole family and when services are delivered jointly by professionals. Early Help may include support from the Family Outreach Team, Parenting support, the Youth Service or completing an Early Help Assessment to ensure a package of support that meets the needs of the whole family is implemented.
